Born in Guangdong’s Mao-Ming district in 1935, Au
Ho-Nien was inspired by Lingnan School’s renowned master, Chao
Shao-Ang and taught early the open-minded approach of that school at
his seventeen. The Lingnan School aims to incorporate foreign
influences into arts in an attempt to mould a new and vital mode of
painting. After almost half a century, Au is now himself one of the
great masters of Lingnan School Paintings. Besides being a master
painter and calligrapher, he is also an accomplished seal carver and a
connoisseur of Chinese art. His works are exhibited all over the world
for the past forty years and are highly prized by public and private
collectors.
